Buzz Rickson
This men's B-10 flight jacket with red ribbed cuffs and waistband is made in Japan by Buzz Rickson, a militarywear-focused brand under Toyo Enterprises renowned for its vintage-inspired craftsmanship. Part of Buzz Rickson's U.S. Army Air Forces / U.S. Air Force collection, this model is a faithful reproduction of the Type B-10 flying jacket (also known as the bomber jacket) originally issued during World War II and produced by Superior Togs Co., Inc., a historic U.S. military contractor that supplied garments to the U.S. Armed Forces. Expertly crafted with the brand's signature attention to detail, it reproduces the authentic features and rugged character of classic American military jackets, while blending seamlessly into today's casual style and bridging heritage aesthetics with modern wearability. This jacket is constructed with a two-layer design for enhanced warmth and durability, featuring an outer shell made of 100% cotton twill in olive drab and a full lining of alpaca-wool pile fur throughout the body and sleeves for insulation. Key functional details include a front Conmatic brass zipper closure reinforced with an internal storm flap along the lower half of the placket, with a leather pull tab attached to the zipper slider, a genuine sheepskin mouton-fur collar with an integrated throat latch sewn on the back side of the left folded collar, rib-knit wool cuffs and waistband in a distinctive red color to help seal out drafts, two lower-front button-flap patch pockets for practical storage with the left pocket flap featuring a pen slot and an internal pen divider inside the pocket, a side-entry interior pocket with a snap-button closure on the left panel, a two-piece underarm gusset panel construction for improved mobility and comfort, single-button shoulder epaulets, and a stenciled U.S. Army Air Forces insignia on the left upper sleeve that completes its historically accurate military design. This jacket is offered in U.S./EU sizes and features a regular fit that is neither too tight nor too loose, with a cropped length. The shorter body not only recreates the authentic silhouette of the vintage B-10 flight jacket but also minimizes excess fabric and prevents bunching when seated. Outer Shell Fabric: The outer shell is constructed from 100% cotton twill in an olive drab color, tightly woven at high density. The fabric combines durability and strength with a supple hand feel. Over time, it will develop a rich patina through natural wear. Due to the dense weave, the surface may show unique fading patterns and subtle white streak-like marks ? inherent characteristics of the material that enhance its vintage appeal and are not considered defects.
Lining (Body and Sleeves): The body and sleeves are fully lined with an alpaca-wool pile fabric composed of 50% alpaca and 50% wool. This natural fiber blend provides excellent thermal insulation and effectively retains warmth in cold weather. While the texture may feel slightly coarse compared to modern synthetic linings, it performs exceptionally well in maintaining body heat during the fall and winter seasons. Unlike synthetic padded insulation, it provides warmth without adding bulk. Please note that minor friction when putting the jacket on, as well as the transfer of fibers from inner garments, may occur due to the natural texture of the lining.
Zipper and Front Closure: The front closure features a vintage-style brass-finished metal zipper from Conmatic, set into all-cotton herringbone twill zipper tape. A genuine cowhide leather pull tab is attached to the zipper slider for ease of use, even when wearing gloves. The zipper is reinforced with an internal storm flap along the lower half of the placket, enhancing wind resistance and protection against drafts. Note on Zipper Function: This garment uses a reproduction vintage-style Conmatic brass zipper rather than a modern smooth-action type. As a result, the movement may feel slightly stiff or occasionally catch during operation. This is an intentional design element that reflects the authentic characteristics of vintage zippers and is not considered a defect.
Pockets: Two button-flap patch pockets are positioned on the lower front for practical storage, with the left pocket flap featuring a pen slot opening. Inside the left pocket, an additional divider helps secure pens or small tools. An interior side-entry pocket with a snap-button closure is also provided on the left panel for convenient access to personal items.
Collar Construction: The collar features a genuine mouton-fur panel with a cotton twill backing that helps maintain its shape and allows it to stand when needed. Trimmed with genuine sheepskin mouton, it provides excellent thermal insulation and wind resistance. A fixed, non-detachable throat latch (chin strap) with a buttonhole is sewn into the back side of the folded-over left portion of the collar. On the opposing right back side, two horizontally aligned buttons are positioned to allow for a two-step closure. This configuration enables the wearer to raise the collar and fasten the throat latch in either position, providing adjustable protection against wind and cold. When not in use, the throat latch can be neatly secured to a keeper button on the back side of the left collar, maintaining a streamlined, unobstructed profile.
Cuffs and Waistband: The cuffs and waistband are constructed from 100% wool rib knit, offering both elasticity and thermal retention. They are made with a folded, double-layer structure to prevent cold air intrusion. The rib knit on the cuffs transitions from a fine (high-gauge) texture at the opening to a coarser (low-gauge) knit toward the base, creating a snug yet flexible fit that effectively seals out wind and cold. Both the sleeve cuffs and waistband are finished in a rare red 100% wool ribbing, faithfully reproducing an uncommon color specification found on select original wartime-issue garments.
Pattern Type: Solid color with painted U.S. Army Air Forces shoulder sleeve insignia on the left arm.
Sleeve Style: Set-in sleeves.
Sleeve Length: Long sleeves.

Additional Functional Details: A two-piece underarm gusset panel construction enhances mobility and comfort. The shoulder epaulets feature button fasteners for classic military styling; each epaulet is sewn down on one end and fastened with a button on the other, allowing it to be opened by unbuttoning. A hanger loop is also sewn into the back neck for convenient hanging.

S. Army Air Force Type B-10 Intermediate Flight Jacket - Military Winter Bomber Jacket / Outerwear Military Pilot Jacket for Men / Reissue Version of the iconic US B10 Military Flight Jacket.
About the Type B-10 Flight Jacket
The Type B-10 is a cloth flight jacket officially adopted by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) in July 1943 as a replacement for the earlier leather B-6 model. During World War II, the U.S. military faced a severe shortage of leather, prompting the development of flight garments made from cotton twill - a material better suited for large-scale production.
The B-10 features an alpaca-mohair wool pile fur lining, which offered several advantages over traditional sheepskin: it was less bulky, lighter in weight, and provided excellent insulation. In appearance, the B-10 closely resembles the "AN" series flight jackets (such as the AN6552 and AN-J-3A), which were designed for joint use by both the Army and Navy, as well as the U.S. Navy’s G-1 jacket. However, the AN series saw very limited issue within the U.S. Army Air Forces, being primarily used by a small number of members of the American Volunteer Group (A.V.G.). The B-10 was therefore developed and introduced as a dedicated, intermediate-weight cloth flight jacket specifically tailored for Army Air Forces use.
This particular reproduction is a faithful recreation of the original B-10 jacket manufactured by Superior Togs Co., Inc., a historic military contractor known for producing iconic flight jackets including the B-10, B-15, B-15A, and L-2A. Although the B-10 was in official service for only about one year, it holds great historical significance as the first cloth flight jacket ever adopted by the U.S. military.
Buzz Rickson’s reproduction meticulously replicates the original garment in both materials and construction. One of the most distinctive features of this model is its olive-colored cotton shell paired with contrasting red wool knit cuffs and waistband - a unique color combination that stands out as a signature detail of the original Superior Togs version.

Aftercare for Buzz Rickson's Flight Jackets (Cotton & Nylon)
・Washing, tumble drying, or dry cleaning is not recommended for Buzz Rickson's flight jackets. These garments are made using a variety of natural materials to ensure authentic reproduction, and improper cleaning methods can cause serious damage or distortion to the overall shape.
・Each jacket combines several materials that are sensitive to water and heat-such as mouton collars, wool-pile or alpaca-mohair linings, and wool ribbing at the cuffs, hem, and collar, as well as leather parts. Exposure to moisture or high temperatures may cause shrinkage, warping, or other permanent changes.
・Please also note that some models feature an "Air Force" insignia applied with heat transfer film, faithfully reproduced using special ink identical to the original. Dry cleaning may cause this mark to fade or disappear completely.
・If the jacket becomes heavily soiled, the safest method is to wipe the surface gently with a soft cloth dampened with diluted neutral detergent. Always test on an inconspicuous area first, as discoloration or uneven fading may occur.
・Important: Certain jackets display a "DRY CLEAN ONLY" label. This tag is a faithful reproduction of the original military label and does not reflect modern care recommendations. We strongly advise against washing, dry cleaning, or artificially distressing the jacket, as doing so may cause irreversible damage.
