Studio D'artisan
These men's pants are made in Japan by Studio D'Artisan (SDA), a brand known for its distinctive craftsmanship. They are a modern reinterpretation of the classic five-pocket jean design, combining a traditional five-pocket layout with richly textured selvedge sashiko fabric rooted in Japanese textile tradition. Developed through the brand's unique fabric-making techniques, these pants deliver refined visual appeal, functional beauty, and durability while fitting naturally into today's casual wardrobe, balancing heritage aesthetics with everyday wearability. The fabric used for this model is a 14-ounce heavyweight selvedge sashiko cloth made from 100% cotton. It is a non-stretch fabric woven with indigo-dyed yarns in both the warp and weft, using the traditional kase-zome (skein-dyeing) method, where yarns are dyed in skein form for deep, even color penetration. Woven at high density on old-style power looms, the result is a tough yet comfortable material with sashiko's signature raised, uneven texture. As part of the finishing process, the garment is one-washed (pre-washed) to help minimize shrinkage. Selvedge detailing appears along the interior outseam and inside the coin pocket. Key construction details include five belt loops, a leather patch at the right side of the back waistband, subtle tonal stitching on both back pockets, and a classic five-pocket design reinforced with rivets for added durability. These sashiko jeans are cut in a regular fit with a mid-rise waist, a button fly, and a straight leg that tapers slightly toward the hem. The silhouette is well balanced through the seat and thighs, offering comfortable room without looking baggy. This is a brand-new original design from Studio D'Artisan, combining classic five-pocket styling with the brand's signature sashiko fabric and detail-driven craftsmanship.

As part of the finishing process, the garment is one-washed (pre-washed) to help minimize shrinkage. Selvedge detailing appears along the interior outseam and inside the coin pocket. A leather patch on the back right side of the waistband. The fabric gradually softens over time, molding to the body and developing deep, contrasting fades unique to each wearer.
About Sashiko Fabric: Sashiko, meaning “little stitches” in Japanese, is a traditional running-stitch technique that began as visible mending, used to reinforce worn areas and extend a garment’s life. In earlier eras, when cotton cloth was precious, damaged clothing was rarely discarded. Instead, it was patched and strengthened with sashiko, reflecting Japan’s practical workwear culture and the spirit of mottainai - a deep respect for resources and an aversion to waste. Over time, these repeated stitches developed into a distinctive aesthetic. The rhythmic lines create subtle raised and indented textures that add depth, character, and a genuinely handworked look. Valued for its durability, sashiko textiles have also been associated with rugged applications, including martial arts uniforms and protective gear. Studio D’Artisan reinterprets this heritage through a modern lens by developing original fabrics that honor sashiko’s functional roots while translating its visual language into a contemporary textile expression.
Kase-zome (Skein Dyeing): Kase-zome, or skein dyeing, is a traditional Japanese method in which yarns are wound into loose loops (skeins) and immersed in dye before weaving or knitting. This process allows the dye to penetrate the fibers evenly, producing consistent and vibrant colors. Compared to piece dyeing (dyeing finished fabric), skein dyeing gives the yarns a deeper, richer tone and helps create textiles with a more natural look and feel. Pockets:
Traditional five-pocket design.
- Front Pockets: Two front hand pockets, reinforced with embossed metal rivets at high-stress points for added durability.
- Coin Pocket: One watch pocket (coin pocket) set into the right front pocket, also secured with embossed rivets. The inner edge of the coin pocket opening features visible selvedge.
- Rear Pockets: Two open-top rear patch pockets with concealed internal rivets. This construction reinforces the pocket from within while keeping the exterior silhouette clean.
- Stitching Detail: Subtle decorative stitching on both back pockets, done in tonal thread to keep the look understated.
Buttons: Button fly with five branded metal buttons (including the top button), featuring engraved Studio D’Artisan logo detailing.
Other Details: Includes five belt loops, interior selvedge along the outseam and coin pocket opening, a right-side back waist leather patch, and rivet reinforcement at key stress points.

Handling Indigo-Dyed Products
This product is dyed with indigo. Because indigo is a natural dye, it will fade over time, and some color transfer may occur during wear or washing. We kindly ask for your understanding of these characteristics and recommend careful handling.
Color transfer from friction:
- During wear, dye may transfer to other garments, bags, chairs, or surfaces due to friction. Please take extra care when pairing with light-colored or white items.
Washing instructions:
- Indigo dye may transfer during washing, so we recommend washing separately. To help reduce uneven fading in areas that rub easily, turn the garment inside out before washing. Avoid scrubbing, and air dry naturally. With repeated washing, the color will gradually stabilize.
Be mindful of water and sweat:
- Moisture from sweat or rain can increase the chance of color transfer. If the fabric becomes damp, fading and transfer are more likely to occur.
Avoid discoloration from sunlight:
- When drying in a sunny spot, we recommend turning the garment inside out to help reduce the risk of discoloration from direct light.
Please handle with care and enjoy the unique character of indigo-dyed products.
Care Instructions
- Machine wash in cool to warm water, up to 40°C / 104°F, using a **gentle cycle.
- Do not use bleach (no chlorine bleach or oxygen-based bleach).
- Do not tumble dry.
- Hang dry in the shade (line dry away from direct sunlight).
- Iron on **low heat up to 150°C / 302°F**, using a **pressing cloth.
- Do not dry clean.

- Color transfer may occur when the fabric is **wet** (from sweat or rain) and through friction (rubbing).
