This men's heavyweight long-sleeve crew-neck sweatshirt is made in Japan by Whitesville, Toyo Enterprises' sportswear label rooted in classic American athletic wear. Drawing on the fabrics, construction, and practical details of vintage sweatshirts, it combines 100% cotton sweatshirt fabric with a brushed interior, a tubular-knit body without side seams, a double-stitched binder neckline, and applied V-shaped rib-knit gussets at both the front and back neck. Extended double-layer cuffs and a deep rib-knit waistband complement the set-in sleeves, while distinctive needle-out rib knit and visible four-needle flatseams give the plain design its texture and definition. The one-wash finish softens the fabric's initial stiffness while retaining moderate body and a substantial feel. A classic, relaxed fit with room through the chest and torso and a relatively short body length brings these vintage-inspired features together in a sweatshirt suited to everyday wear on its own or beneath a jacket or coat.

Size and Fit Guide:

Gender: Men.

Fit: This sweatshirt has a classic, relaxed fit inspired by traditional American athletic wear, with comfortable room through the chest and torso and a relatively short body length. The shoulders are not excessively broad, giving the sweatshirt a balanced silhouette with moderate ease rather than an exaggerated oversized appearance.

The set-in sleeves create defined shoulder and armhole seams. The deep rib-knit waistband draws in only gently, allowing the body to fall naturally toward the hem without strongly cinching the waist. Extended rib-knit cuffs finish the sleeves, which narrow naturally toward the wrists.

Fit will vary depending on your body type, the thickness of the layers worn underneath, and your preferred amount of room. Please measure a similar sweatshirt that fits you well and compare its chest width, body length, center-back sleeve length, sleeve length from the shoulder seam, and shoulder width with the measurements below. The rib-knit sections stretch during wear, so please also consider their elasticity when assessing the fit.

Our model wears Tagged Size S. He is 175 cm / approximately 5'9" tall, weighs 59 kg / approximately 130 lbs, and has a 91 cm / approximately 36" chest. For reference, he normally wears a US/EU size S/36.

The following measurements show the garment itself laid flat, not the wearer's body measurements. Width is the straight-across measurement of the sweatshirt and does not represent the full chest circumference.

[How We Measure the Actual Garment]

Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Measured with the sweatshirt laid flat, straight across from side to side approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms. This is a flat width measurement, not the garment's full chest circumference or the wearer's chest measurement.

Length (Body Length): Measured down the back from the base of the collar, at the seam where the collar joins the body, to the bottom edge of the rib-knit waistband. The waistband is included, but the height of the collar is not.

Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): The first sleeve measurement is taken from the center back at the base of the collar seam, across the shoulder, and down to the end of the cuff. The full length of the rib-knit cuff is included.

Sleeve in Parentheses (Sleeve Length from Shoulder Seam): The measurement in parentheses is taken from the top of the shoulder seam down to the end of the cuff. The full length of the rib-knit cuff is included.

Shoulder (Shoulder Width): Measured straight across the back from the top of one shoulder seam to the top of the other.

- Brand new and unused.
- All measurements are taken by hand with the garment laid flat, using a measuring tape.
- Slight measurement differences may occur due to the characteristics of the fabric, the one-wash finishing process, individual garment variations, and the measuring method.
- Actual color may vary slightly from the photos due to lighting conditions and individual screen settings.

Heavyweight 100% Cotton Sweatshirt Fabric with a Brushed Interior
The body fabric is knitted from 100% cotton using a 20-count face yarn, a 20-count connecting yarn, and a 7-count backing yarn. This combination forms the substantial sweatshirt fabric used throughout the body and sleeves, with a finely knitted outer surface and a brushed reverse.

The fabric has a firm, substantial hand without feeling excessively thick. It retains moderate body while remaining supple enough to bend and move naturally. Fine vertical columns of stitches are visible on the face, and the character of the cotton yarns introduces slight surface irregularity. These subtle variations give the otherwise plain fabric the understated texture associated with vintage sweatshirts.

The reverse is brushed to raise the cotton fibers, creating a soft, textured inner surface. This brushed finish works together with the thickness of the knit to provide warmth, giving the sweatshirt a substantial feel for standalone wear and layering beneath outerwear.

Tubular-Knit Body without Side Seams
The body is knitted in a continuous tubular form on a circular knitting machine. This construction, known in Japan as "marudo," produces the torso as a tube with no vertical side seams joining the front and back along either side.

Because there are no side seams, there are no corresponding seam allowances or overlapping fabric edges along the sides of the body. This keeps those areas free from the localized thickness and raised edges that a sewn junction can create, giving the substantial sweatshirt fabric a smoother profile against the sides of the wearer.

One-Wash Finish for a Supple Feel
The sweatshirt is washed once as part of the finishing process. This initial wash softens the fabric's stiffness while retaining moderate body, giving the cotton knit a supple, gently settled feel from the first wear.

The wash also allows some initial shrinkage to take place before the garment is sold, helping reduce the amount of substantial shrinkage compared with an unwashed garment. Some further shrinkage or other dimensional change may still occur because this is a 100% cotton knit, and the result will depend on subsequent washing and drying conditions as well as differences between individual garments. With repeated wear and washing, the fabric's texture gradually develops a more naturally broken-in feel.

Double-Stitched Rib-Knit Binder Crew Neck
The crew neck is finished with a separate rib-knit binding that wraps around the cut edge of the body fabric. The binding encloses the neckline edge from both the outside and inside, with two rows of stitching securing the folded rib knit in place.

This construction supports the neckline around the opening and helps control stretching, waviness, and distortion caused by repeatedly pulling the sweatshirt on and taking it off. The rib-knit binding allows the neck opening to flex while helping it retain its defined crew-neck shape.

Applied V-Gussets at the Front and Back Neckline
V-shaped rib-knit gussets are positioned immediately below the neckline on both the front and back, creating the classic "double V" detail. Each gusset is cut as a separate triangular piece, laid over the outer surface of the body fabric, and attached with four-needle flatseam stitching. The body fabric remains beneath the applied rib-knit piece, creating the layered construction known in Japanese sweatshirt terminology as "tatakitsuke V."

Near the lower point of each V, the stitch lines from the two sides cross and continue slightly beyond the tip. These intersecting, extended stitch lines give the gussets the characteristic appearance found on vintage-style sweatshirts.

V-gussets historically also served as sweat-catching details near the neckline of athletic sweatshirts. Here, their triangular shape, ribbed texture, and visible stitching add a distinctly traditional athletic-wear detail to the simple crew neck.

Set-In Sleeves with One-Piece Sleeve Panels
The long sleeves use a conventional set-in construction. Each sleeve is cut with a shaped sleeve cap and sewn into the corresponding armhole of the body, forming a defined transition from the shoulder to the arm.

Each sleeve is made from one main fabric panel, joined along its underside on the inner-arm side to form a tube. This straightforward construction establishes the natural shoulder-to-sleeve line associated with classic crew-neck sweatshirts.

Extended Double-Layer Rib-Knit Cuffs
Each cuff is formed from a separate piece of rib knit folded back on itself to create a double layer, then sewn to the end of the sleeve. The sleeve narrows naturally toward this ribbed opening, and the rib knit flexes around the wrist during wear.

The cuffs are comparatively long, covering an extended area around the wrists. Their folded construction gives the sleeve ends a defined finish, while the visible rib texture contributes to the sweatshirt's vintage athletic appearance.

Deep Double-Layer Rib-Knit Waistband
The hem is finished with a deep rib-knit waistband. As with the cuffs, the rib knit is folded to create a double layer and attached to the lower edge of the body, producing a substantial band around the bottom of the sweatshirt.

The elasticity of the rib knit allows the waistband to follow the waist naturally and helps the hem sit securely. Its gathering effect is restrained, so it does not strongly pull in the lower body. This maintains the natural fall from the roomy torso to the hem and supports the sweatshirt's relatively short, classic proportions.

10-Count Needle-Out Rib Knit
The neckline, V-gussets, cuffs, and waistband use needle-out rib knit made with 10-count yarn. This knitting technique leaves selected needles out of action at regular intervals, emphasizing the vertical ridges and recessed channels within the rib structure.

On this sweatshirt, regularly spaced groove-like lines appear between the finer knitted stitches, giving the rib fabric a pronounced surface texture. The contrast between this rib structure and the finer face of the body fabric defines the neckline, gussets, sleeve ends, and hem while preserving the simplicity of the plain design.

Four-Needle Flatseam Construction
Major garment components and applied details are joined or secured with flatseams sewn on a four-needle flatseamer. This method keeps the stitched junctions relatively flat and limits the raised seam allowances that can add localized thickness on the inside of a garment.

The construction is used at areas including the shoulders, armholes, undersleeves, V-gussets, cuffs, and waistband. Keeping these junctions low in profile helps reduce bulky ridges where the substantial fabrics meet and makes the seams less prominent against the body.

Visible Flatseam Stitching
The four-needle stitching also forms visible lines along the outside of the sweatshirt. These comparatively wide stitch lines follow the garment's construction, outlining the component edges, applied gussets, and transitions between the body fabric and rib knit.

The stitching provides a restrained accent on the plain design, bringing definition to the sweatshirt through the seams themselves. Together with the textured rib knit and front and back V-gussets, it gives the garment the practical, recognizable character of classic American athletic wear.

Cuff Seam Endings
The flatseam along the underside of each sleeve continues through the rib-knit cuff to its outer edge. Short thread ends may remain where the stitching finishes at the end of the cuff. Please be aware that these thread ends are a characteristic of the sewing construction used for this sweatshirt.

Made in Japan
Whitesville's WV67728 Heavy Sweat Shirt is made in Japan. Its substantial brushed cotton fabric is combined with a tubular body, a binder crew neck, applied front and back V-gussets, textured needle-out rib knit, and four-needle flatseams.

The result is a plain sweatshirt whose character comes from the fabric surface, the proportions of the ribbed trim, and the construction of its individual parts. Its classic, relaxed fit combines comfortable room through the torso with a relatively short body length, making it an easy choice for everyday wear on its own or beneath jackets and coats.
