This men's heavyweight collared half-zip sweatshirt is made in Japan by Whitesville, Toyo Enterprises' sportswear label rooted in classic American athletic wear. Drawing on the fabrics, construction, and practical details of vintage sweatshirts, it combines 100% cotton sweatshirt fabric with a brushed interior, a tubular-knit body without side seams, a double-layer turn-down collar made from the body fabric, and a TALON half-zip with a locking slider. Set-in sleeves, extended double-layer rib-knit cuffs, a deep rib-knit waistband, and visible two-needle stitching complete the construction. The one-wash finish softens the fabric's initial stiffness while retaining moderate body and a substantial feel. The collar adds a neat, shirt-like appearance to the casual sweatshirt fabric, while the adjustable neckline allows different layers to show beneath. A classic fit with room through the chest and torso and a relatively short body length brings these vintage-inspired details together in a sweatshirt suited to everyday wear on its own or beneath a jacket or coat.

Size and Fit Guide:

Gender: Men.

Fit: This sweatshirt has a classic fit inspired by traditional American athletic wear and vintage sweatshirts, with comfortable room through the chest and torso and a relatively short body length. The shoulders are not excessively broad, giving the sweatshirt a balanced silhouette with moderate ease and no exaggerated oversized appearance.

The set-in sleeves create defined shoulder and armhole seams. The deep rib-knit waistband draws in only gently, allowing the body to fall naturally toward the hem without strongly cinching the waist. Extended rib-knit cuffs finish the sleeves, which narrow naturally toward the wrists.

Fit will vary depending on your body type, the thickness of the layers worn underneath, and your preferred amount of room. Please measure a similar sweatshirt that fits you well and compare its chest width, body length, center-back sleeve length, sleeve length from the shoulder seam, and shoulder width with the measurements below. The rib-knit sections stretch during wear, so please also consider their elasticity when assessing the fit.

Our model wears Tagged Size S. He is 175 cm / approximately 5'9" tall, weighs 59 kg / approximately 130 lbs, and has a 91 cm / approximately 36" chest. For reference, he normally wears a US/EU size S/36.

The following measurements show the garment itself laid flat, not the wearer's body measurements. Width is the straight-across measurement of the sweatshirt and does not represent the full chest circumference.

[How We Measure the Actual Garment]

Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Measured with the sweatshirt laid flat, straight across from side to side approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms. This is a flat width measurement, not the garment's full chest circumference or the wearer's chest measurement.

Length (Body Length): Measured down the back from the base of the collar, at the seam where the collar joins the body, to the bottom edge of the rib-knit waistband. The waistband is included, but the height of the collar is not.

Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): The first sleeve measurement is taken from the center back at the base of the collar seam, across the shoulder, and down to the end of the cuff. The full length of the rib-knit cuff is included.

Sleeve in Parentheses (Sleeve Length from Shoulder Seam): The measurement in parentheses is taken from the top of the shoulder seam down to the end of the cuff. The full length of the rib-knit cuff is included.

Shoulder (Shoulder Width): Measured straight across the back from the top of one shoulder seam to the top of the other.

- Brand new and unused.
- All measurements are taken by hand with the garment laid flat, using a measuring tape.
- Slight measurement differences may occur due to the characteristics of the fabric, the one-wash finishing process, individual garment variations, and the measuring method.
- Actual color may vary slightly from the photos due to lighting conditions and individual screen settings.

Vintage-Inspired Collared Half-Zip Design
The design combines the substantial knit fabric and ribbed trim of a traditional athletic sweatshirt with a turn-down collar and a front opening that extends from the base of the collar to the chest. The collar gives the neckline a defined, shirt-like appearance while retaining the casual texture and feel of sweatshirt fabric.

The half-zip allows you to adjust the opening around the neck. It can be worn zipped up for a neat, closed neckline or partly open to reveal a T-shirt or collared shirt underneath. This combination of a pullover body, fold-over collar, and adjustable front opening gives the sweatshirt a distinctive appearance both as a main layer and beneath jackets or coats.

Heavyweight 100% Cotton Sweatshirt Fabric with a Brushed Interior
The body fabric is knitted from 100% cotton using a 20-count face yarn, a 20-count connecting yarn, and a 7-count backing yarn. These yarns form a substantial sweatshirt knit with a finely textured outer surface and a brushed reverse.

The fabric has a firm, substantial hand without feeling excessively thick. It retains moderate body while remaining supple enough to bend and move naturally. Fine vertical columns of stitches are visible on the face, and the character of the cotton yarns introduces slight surface irregularity. These subtle variations give the plain fabric the natural, understated texture associated with vintage sweatshirts.

The reverse is brushed to raise the cotton fibers, creating a soft inner surface against the skin. This brushed finish works together with the thickness of the knit to provide warmth, while the balance of substance and suppleness supports both standalone wear and layering beneath outerwear.

Tubular-Knit Body without Side Seams
The body is knitted in a continuous tubular form on a circular knitting machine. This construction, known in Japan as "marudo," produces the torso as a tube with no vertical side seams joining the front and back along either side.

Because there are no side seams, there are no corresponding seam allowances or overlapping fabric edges along the sides of the body. This keeps those areas free from the localized thickness and raised edges that a sewn junction can create, giving the substantial sweatshirt fabric a smoother profile against the sides of the wearer.

One-Wash Finish for a Supple Feel
The sweatshirt is washed once as part of the finishing process. This initial wash softens the fabric's stiffness while retaining moderate body, giving the cotton knit a supple, gently settled feel from the first wear.

The wash also allows some initial shrinkage to take place before the garment is sold, helping reduce the amount of substantial shrinkage compared with an unwashed garment. Some further shrinkage or other dimensional change may still occur because this is a 100% cotton knit, and the result will depend on subsequent washing and drying conditions as well as differences between individual garments. With repeated wear and washing, the fabric's texture gradually develops a more naturally broken-in feel.

Double-Layer Turn-Down Collar in Matching Sweatshirt Fabric
The turn-down collar is made from two layers of the same sweatshirt fabric used for the body. The layers are arranged so that the face of the fabric is exposed on both the upper and underside of the collar, keeping the brushed surfaces enclosed between them.

The collar is sewn to the body along the neckline. Its doubled construction gives the folded collar substance, while the matching fabric maintains a continuous texture between the neck and body. The visible collar shape adds definition around the face and brings a shirt-like detail to the otherwise plain sweatshirt design.

TALON Half-Zip with a Locking Slider
A TALON zipper runs from the base of the collar down to the chest. The slider incorporates a locking mechanism controlled by the position of the pull tab: lowering the pull tab engages the lock, while lifting it releases the lock so the slider can move.

This mechanism helps resist unintended downward movement of the slider when the garment moves or tension is applied to the surrounding fabric. It helps maintain the chosen opening at the neckline, although it does not guarantee that the zipper will remain closed under every condition.

To open or close the zipper, lift the pull tab to release the lock and move the slider up or down while keeping the tab raised. Lowering the tab again engages the lock at the selected position.

Set-In Sleeves with One-Piece Sleeve Panels
The long sleeves use a conventional set-in construction. Each sleeve is cut with a shaped sleeve cap and sewn into the corresponding armhole of the body, forming a defined transition from the shoulder to the arm.

Each sleeve is made from one main fabric panel, joined along its underside on the inner-arm side to form a tube. This straightforward construction establishes the natural shoulder-to-sleeve line associated with classic athletic sweatshirts.

Extended Double-Layer Rib-Knit Cuffs
Each cuff is formed from a separate piece of rib knit folded back on itself to create a double layer, then sewn to the end of the sleeve. The sleeve end narrows gently toward the wrist, where the rib-knit cuff completes the opening.

The cuffs are comparatively long, covering an extended area around the wrists. Their folded construction gives the sleeve ends a substantial finish, while the ribbed surface provides a visible change in texture from the main sweatshirt fabric.

Deep Double-Layer Rib-Knit Waistband
The hem is finished with a deep rib-knit waistband. As with the cuffs, the rib knit is folded to create a double layer and sewn to the lower edge of the body, forming a substantial band around the bottom of the sweatshirt.

The elasticity of the rib knit allows the waistband to follow the waist and helps the hem sit neatly. Its gathering effect is restrained, allowing the body to fall naturally toward the hem without strongly pulling in the lower torso. This supports the sweatshirt's classic proportions and relatively short body length.

Two-Needle Stitching at Major Garment Junctions
Major garment components are joined or secured using two-needle stitching. At these junctions, two parallel rows of stitches run on either side of the line where the fabrics meet, holding the seam allowances in place and reinforcing the connection from both sides.

The stitch lines are also visible on the outside, outlining the individual parts and defining transitions between sections of the garment. These parallel lines give the plain sweatshirt a subtle accent through its construction, contributing to the practical appearance of classic American athletic wear.

Made in Japan
Whitesville's WV69641 Half Zip Sweat Shirt is made in Japan. Its substantial brushed cotton fabric is combined with a tubular body, a double-layer turn-down collar, a locking TALON half-zip, extended rib-knit cuffs and waistband, and two-needle stitching.

The result is a plain sweatshirt whose character comes from the fabric surface, the texture and proportions of the ribbed trim, and the construction of its individual parts. The collar adds a neat, shirt-like detail to the casual sweatshirt fabric, while the classic fit provides comfortable room through the torso with a relatively short body length. These features bring the details of vintage athletic wear into an everyday sweatshirt that can be worn on its own or beneath jackets and coats.
