Buzz Rickson

This men's patched tanker jacket is made in Japan by Buzz Rickson, a militarywear-focused brand under Toyo Enterprises renowned for its vintage-inspired craftsmanship. Part of Buzz Rickson's U.S. Army collection, this model is a modern reproduction of the iconic costume worn by Brad Pitt as U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Don "Wardaddy" Collier, a Sherman tank commander, in the 2014 World War II film "Fury." Expertly crafted with the brand's signature attention to detail, it faithfully recreates the rugged character of the original tanker jacket and the distinctive patch design of Brad Pitt's on-screen style, while combining authentic military aesthetics with contemporary wearability and visual appeal. The Tanker Jacket was manufactured in two main versions, an early type with external patch pockets and a later type with inset slash pockets. This model is based on the early specification and features dual patch pockets positioned at the lower front of the jacket, along with hand-sewn embroidered patches on both sleeves that replicate the design featured in the film "Fury." This jacket is constructed with a two-layer fabric composition for both insulation and durability. The outer shell is made from high-density cotton twill in an olive drab color, offering a period-correct texture. The interior is fully lined with a 26-ounce wool blanket material, providing moderate warmth in cold weather conditions. Key functional details include a front TALON zipper closure equipped with an internal storm flap for added wind protection, and double-layer wool knit components such as the stand collar, cuffs, and waistband in authentic olive drab to ensure secure insulation at key heat-retention points. The jacket also incorporates a bi-swing back panel to enhance mobility, a design element originally intended to accommodate the movement of tank crewmen. Two patch pockets are positioned at the lower front for both practicality and historical accuracy. In addition, the jacket features a sewn-on U.S. Army 2nd Armored Division insignia on the left upper arm, along with Staff Sergeant chevron rank insignia on both sleeves, faithfully replicating the placement and style used by non-commissioned officers in armored units during World War II. This jacket is offered in U.S./EU sizes and features a relaxed, military-inspired fit that provides a comfortable silhouette with a moderately roomy chest, allowing for easy layering with lightweight pieces such as T-shirts or heavier items like sweatshirts. The cropped length not only reproduces the authentic silhouette of a vintage tanker jacket but also minimizes excess fabric and prevents bunching when seated. This is a new original release from Buzz Rickson, expertly combining vintage military aesthetics with Brad Pitt's iconic Fury costume design, meticulously crafted with the brand's renowned attention to historical accuracy and detail.

Outer Shell: Made from high-density West Point uniform twill - a 100% cotton fabric in olive drab shade. This tightly woven, non-stretch fabric is engineered for durability. While rugged and structured in appearance, it retains a natural suppleness that allows for comfortable wear over time.

Lining: Fully lined with a 100% wool blanket (26 oz.) throughout the body and sleeves. This brushed wool interior provides effective thermal insulation without the excessive bulk of modern synthetic puffers. The texture maintains a slightly coarse and scratchy hand feel-true to original military-grade materials--yet traps heat efficiently and ensures dependable cold-weather protection even in harsh environments. Faithfully constructed to wartime specifications for authentic function and performance.

Front Closure / Placket Configuration: Features a period-correct TALON nickel zipper at the front, reinforced with an internal wind shield (storm flap) positioned behind the zipper tape. This construction enhances wind resistance and reflects original U.S. Army functional design. *Note on Zipper Function: This garment uses a reproduction vintage-style zipper rather than a modern smooth-action type. As a result, it may feel stiffer and occasionally catch during operation. This is an intentional design element of the vintage reproduction and not a product defect.

Collar and Hem: Made from folded, double-layer knitted wool, the stand-up collar and waistband are designed to trap heat and block cold air, providing steady warmth and comfort.

Cuff Construction: The cuffs are also crafted from folded, double-layer knitted wool to prevent cold air intrusion. The rib knit transitions from fine (high-gauge) at the opening to coarse (low-gauge) at the base, creating a snug yet flexible fit that effectively seals out wind and cold.

Back Construction and Cropped Length: Incorporates a bi-swing back design with dual action pleats to improve upper-body mobility. This movement-oriented construction is paired with a deliberately cropped body length-engineered to minimize fabric bunching around the waist when seated, particularly in confined environments such as armored vehicles or combat transport.

Pocket Configuration: Two open-top patch pockets located at the lower front. These external utility pockets are simple, durable, and functional - faithfully mirroring the original specifications of U.S. Army winter combat jackets.

Pattern & Color: The jacket features a sewn-on U.S. Army 2nd Armored Division insignia on the left upper arm, along with Staff Sergeant chevron rank insignia on both sleeves, replicating the authentic placement and style used by non-commissioned officers in armored units during World War II.

Model name :Buzz Rickson Lot No. BR15751 / Type TANKERS PATCH POCKET "BUZZ RICKSON CO. 2nd ARMOR DIVISION"/ BR15751 Buzz Rickson Men's Casual Blanket-Lined Cotton Jacket - A reproduction model of the "Jacket, Combat, Winter," a cold-weather jacket originally developed for U.S. Army tank crewmen and commonly known as the Tanker Jacket / Replica of the Early Patch-Pocket Model of the U.S. Army Tanker Jacket - Men's Military Winter Combat Jacket / Outerwear Winter Jacket for Men / Reissue Version of the iconic US tank jackets.

・U.S. Army Tanker Jacket

・The garment commonly known as the "Tanker Jacket" carries the official designation "Jacket, Combat, Winter" and was developed by the U.S. Army in 1940, immediately prior to America's formal entry into World War II. Originally engineered as a cold-weather combat uniform for armored vehicle personnel (most notably tank crews), the first production prototype was completed in 1941, with full-scale issuance commencing later that same year. The outer shell was constructed from tightly woven cotton twill, chosen for its durability and resistance to wind and light moisture, while the lining was made from a 26-ounce wool blanket that provided substantial warmth while maintaining flexibility and freedom of movement. Key structural components, including the underarms and sleeves, feature double-needle flat-felled seams for superior strength and durability under field conditions. The back panel incorporates dual bi-swing pleats to enhance shoulder mobility, especially important within the confined interiors of armored vehicles.

・Two primary production variants of the Tanker Jacket were issued. The early pattern (first model) featured open-top patch pockets at the lower front of the garment, while the later pattern introduced slanted slash pockets positioned higher on the torso (an ergonomic improvement that reduced the risk of items falling out during movement). While initially issued to armored divisions, the jacket quickly gained popularity across other branches of service due to the general shortage of adequate winter gear and was often repurposed as a makeshift flight jacket in the European Theater. Following the introduction of the standardized M-1943 Field Jacket, designed for multi-environment versatility, the Tanker Jacket gradually saw reduced distribution and was ultimately limited to specialized use.

・This reproduction faithfully recreates the first-pattern Tanker Jacket standardized in 1941, featuring the original patch-pocket configuration and authentic wartime construction details with meticulous attention to historical accuracy.

Aftercare for Buzz Rickson's Flight Jackets (Cotton & Nylon)

・Washing, tumble drying, or dry cleaning is not recommended for Buzz Rickson's flight jackets. These garments are made using a variety of natural materials to ensure authentic reproduction, and improper cleaning methods can cause serious damage or distortion to the overall shape.

・Each jacket combines several materials that are sensitive to water and heat-such as mouton collars, wool-pile or alpaca-mohair linings, and wool ribbing at the cuffs, hem, and collar, as well as leather parts. Exposure to moisture or high temperatures may cause shrinkage, warping, or other permanent changes.

・Please also note that some models feature an "Air Force" insignia applied with heat transfer film, faithfully reproduced using special ink identical to the original. Dry cleaning may cause this mark to fade or disappear completely.

・If the jacket becomes heavily soiled, the safest method is to wipe the surface gently with a soft cloth dampened with diluted neutral detergent. Always test on an inconspicuous area first, as discoloration or uneven fading may occur.

・Important: Certain jackets display a "DRY CLEAN ONLY" label. This tag is a faithful reproduction of the original military label and does not reflect modern care recommendations. We strongly advise against washing, dry cleaning, or artificially distressing the jacket, as doing so may cause irreversible damage.
