ONI Denim Men's 15oz Selvedge Jeans - Old-Style Spun Yarn & Shuttle-Loom Woven Denim, Regular Straight Fit, Button Fly, Indigo One Wash, Made in Japan (ONI270-Ishikawadai)
ONI Denim
These men's jeans are made in Japan by ONI Denim, a brand known for its distinctive craftsmanship. This new release is crafted from 15 oz selvedge denim woven on a 1950s shuttle loom using yarn spun on the legendary Ishikawadai, a Japanese ring-spinning machine dating back to 1953. Developed through the brand's unique fabric-making techniques, the fabric offers a rich, vintage-style texture. Finished with a traditional five-pocket design, these jeans balance heritage character with easy wearability for today's casual wardrobe. This denim uses a 15 oz, 100% cotton, non-stretch selvedge fabric, made with yarn spun on a vintage ring-spinning machine (Ishikawadai) and woven at low tension on a vintage shuttle loom. It features indigo-dyed warp yarns paired with an ecru, undyed weft. By combining traditional spinning and weaving techniques, the fabric develops an uneven surface with natural irregularity, a rugged character, and a subtly hairy surface typical of old-style denim. At the same time, the ecru weft gently shows through between the indigo warp yarns, adding depth to the fabric face and creating a naturally mottled, vintage-inspired appearance. The jeans also feature authentic leg twist along both seams and come in a one-wash finish to help reduce shrinkage and feel more pliable from the start. In terms of construction and detailing, these jeans feature interior selvedge along the outseam and at the coin pocket opening. They are built around a classic five-pocket layout reinforced with rivets for durability and feature a button fly with antiqued metal buttons engraved with the brand logo. Additional details include five belt loops, decorative stitching on both back pockets, hidden rivets at the back pocket corners, and a leather patch set on the right side of the back waistband. The hem is finished with a chain-stitched construction for a vintage-accurate look. For fit, these jeans feature a regular fit with a straight leg and a mid-rise waist. The seat and thighs offer a comfortable, regular fit for a well-balanced, timeless silhouette that is neither too slim nor too loose. This model is a new original release from ONI Denim, combining classic styling with the brand's signature denim fabric and craftsmanship.

Fabric:
- 15 oz selvedge denim (100% cotton, non-stretch) developed by ONI Denim with a strong focus on vintage-style texture and surface character.
- Woven at low tension on a 1950s-era shuttle loom, allowing the yarn’s natural irregularity to show on the fabric face.
- Indigo-dyed warp yarns with an ecru (undyed) weft, creating depth and a naturally mottled, vintage-inspired look as the ecru weft subtly shows through.
- The surface is intentionally uneven with visible natural irregularity and a slightly hairy, old-style denim feel, giving the fabric a rugged texture.
Yarn and Spinning (Ishikawadai):
- Made using yarn spun on the legendary Ishikawadai ring-spinning machine (a vintage Japanese spinning machine dating back to 1953).
- Old-style ring-spun yarn production helps produce a more character-rich denim with a deeper, more organic texture compared to modern high-efficiency spinning.
Weaving Method (1950s shuttle loom, low tension):
- Shuttle-loom weaving produces selvedge edges and contributes to the fabric’s classic, heritage-style structure.
- Low-tension weaving emphasizes texture, allowing the denim to develop more highs and lows rather than a flat, uniform surface.
Color and Visual Character:
- Indigo warp plus ecru weft creates a layered tone with visible depth, rather than a single flat indigo shade.
- The uneven yarn character and low-tension weave combine to give the denim a naturally varied appearance with a subtle mottled nuance.
Finish: One-Wash:
- Finished in a one-wash process to help reduce shrinkage and to make the denim feel more pliable from the start.
- Due to the nature of old-style yarn and low-tension shuttle-loom weaving, the waist and inseam can still tend to show slightly more shrinkage even after the one-wash finish.
Pattern Behavior: Leg Twist:
- Features authentic leg twist along both seams, a classic characteristic often seen in vintage-style denim where the fabric and construction naturally create a slight twist in the leg line from the start.
Construction:
- Traditional five-pocket jean construction designed for daily durability and long-term wear.
- Interior selvedge detailing along the inside of the outseam and at the coin pocket opening for a heritage-accurate finish.
Pockets:
- Classic five-pocket construction, consisting of two front hand pockets, an open-top coin pocket set inside the right front pocket, and two open-top back pockets.
- The front hand pockets are cut in a classic curved entry shape for easy access and a traditional vintage look.
- The front pockets and coin pocket are reinforced with exposed copper rivets at key stress points for durability.
- The coin pocket features selvedge detailing along the inside of the opening.
- The open-top back patch pockets are finished with ONI Denim’s signature arcuate-style stitching in contrasting thread for a subtle visual accent.
- Hidden rivets are used at the upper corners of the back pockets, reinforcing stress points from the inside while maintaining a clean exterior appearance.
- The front hand pocket bags are constructed for durability and long-term wear, consistent with traditional workwear specifications.
Fly and Hardware:
- Button fly construction with five buttons total, including the top waistband button, for a classic vintage jeans feel.
- Antiqued metal buttons engraved with the brand logo.
Waistband and Branding:
- Five belt loops.
- Leather patch set on the right side of the back waistband.
Back Yoke:
- Constructed with a traditional two-piece back yoke, designed to enhance the natural contour of the waist and hips.
- The angled yoke seam helps shape the seat for a more ergonomic fit while maintaining a classic vintage jeans silhouette.
- Carefully aligned stitching ensures structural integrity and long-term durability at this high-stress area.
Hem Finish:
- Chain-stitched hem for a vintage-accurate look and finish.

Handling Warp-Dyed (Non-Indigo) Denim Products
- This product is made from denim with warp yarns dyed using non-indigo dyeing methods, while the weft yarns remain undyed. This dyeing approach creates depth of color and a distinctive surface appearance. Due to the characteristics of warp-dyed fabrics, slight color variation or unevenness may be present. We kindly ask for your understanding and recommend careful handling.
- Be cautious of color transfer caused by friction
Because the dyed warp yarns are exposed on the fabric surface, color transfer may occur through friction during wear. Please take extra care when wearing with light-colored or white garments, as well as when in contact with bags, furniture, or other surfaces.
Washing instructions
-Some color transfer may occur during washing, particularly in the early stages of use. We recommend washing this item separately. To help preserve the color and surface texture, turn the garment inside out before washing, avoid vigorous agitation or scrubbing, and allow it to air dry naturally.
Be mindful of moisture and perspiration
- Exposure to moisture such as sweat or rain may increase the risk of color transfer or color change. If the fabric becomes damp, allow it to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat or sunlight.
- Avoid discoloration caused by sunlight
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause discoloration or uneven fading. When drying, turn the garment inside out and avoid extended sun exposure.
- Please handle with care and enjoy the unique texture, depth of color, and individual character that naturally develop in warp-dyed denim over time.
